Lori Deschene

My name is Lori Deschene and I wrote the assistive technology series for Gilbert Guide (the foremost resource for everything senior care.) I’m glad you visited our site and that my posts inspired you.

I’m sure you’re aware that I did not coin the phrase “ambient intelligent environment.” (I agree, though, that “always-on applications” is a little more user-friendly!) In my posts, I explored assistive technology as an adjunct to aging in place. My intention was to show how technology could assist—not replace—family caregivers. Although I mentioned that some long-term care facilities utilize assistive technology to monitor residents, I primarily focused on technology used in the home environment. Here at Gilbert Guide, we support any advancement that simplifies life for caregivers. In regards to cooperation from the medical profession, you’ve outlined a sad trajectory. Let’s face it: there will soon be too many seniors and not enough care providers; something has to give.

I look forward to following your future posts,
Lori Deschene
