At this moment of horror and grief, I don't have answers. Just a question.
How can assistive technology help with our mental health challenge?
We already have many great tools for learning disabilities, such as Inspiration.
We need more tools for other mental health problems.
We need computer tools to assist in diagnosis. We need Internet tools to link people to the help they need. We need computer tools to assist in whatever remediation is possible.
Mental health is an awesomely labor intensive field, every aspect of
it. And this need for handwork, done by trained minds, makes it very,
very expensive.
We have tried hard to reduce this cost through drug therapy. But drug therapy alone is not enough, for any condition. We need more.
Just a few ideas:
- Role-playing through teleconferencing.
- Remote diagnosis and therapy.
- Internet tools for family, friends, and troubled kids which direct them to the proper authorities.
Your ideas are welcome. Consider this an open thread.
Great ideas . Any more contributors to this discussion. I would like to pursue these ideas in collaboration with other interested parties. I am deeply involved in Mental Health issues , a business man and father of a son with mental illness.
